Services Provided:
As part of its mission to eliminate avoidable blindness, the Barsana Eye Care Project offers the
following free,
high-quality cataract care services to underserved communities:
PHACO Cataract Surgeries
Advanced phacoemulsification (PHACO) cataract surgeries with intraocular lens (IOL) implants are
performed completely free of charge.
Comprehensive Patient Care
Patients receive free nursing care along with complimentary boarding and lodging throughout
their hospital stay.
Post-Discharge Support
Patients are provided with 40 days of prescribed medicines, eye drops, and a pair of protective
dark glasses at
no cost.
Reduction of Surgical Backlogs:
The project actively addresses and reduces the backlog of cataract surgeries in the region,
improving overall
eye health access.

Timely Intervention
Prevents permanent loss of vision due to cataracts by early treatment.
Improved Mental and Social Well-being
Reduces social isolation and depression through restored sight.

Milestone Achieved – Completion of Phase 1 by April 2025
1,250 free PHACO cataract surgeries successfully completed.
All patients received IOL implants, nursing care, and
boarding/lodging.
40 days of medication, eye drops, and protective glasses provided to
each patient.
Significant progress in reducing regional cataract surgery backlog
and restoring
dignity to patients.
