About The Project

Barsana is an ancient holy town in Mathura district, about 150 kms from New Delhi. A significant percentage of the locals (known as Brajwasis) are poor and have limited access to medical facilities. As a result, elderly villagers from Barsana and surrounding villages, lead a life of dependency due to cataract induced blindness. Something, which is easily preventable by timely interventions and care.

The Bhaktivedanta Eye Hospital at Barsana is a truly visionary project that will help restore and improve the eyesight of many Brajwasis. It is a charitable venture, in which the mood is direct, very honest and pure service. Since 1992, Bhaktivedanata Eye Hospital has been providing eye & dental care services including free cataract surgeries through Annual camps & a make-shift day care unit.

The small hospital set-up and lack of capacity is a limiting factor to achieving our goal of eradicating cataract induced blindness and treating eye related ailments. Hence the requirement of a state-of-the-art eye care facility in Barsana. The construction of the new eye hospital building on a 5-acre plot in Barsana, started in May ’22. In phase-I, the built -up area will be about 48,000 sq ft. When ready, the new 76 bedded hospital will have 4 state of art operation theaters, equipped with the latest technology in ophthalmic surgery and eye care.

A new activity was introduced this year. A team of dentists visited local schools to screen students and educate them in dental care and hygiene. About 411 students were examined and 69 fillings were done.

Commencement of construction work of the Eye Hospital https://barsanahealthcare.com/new/commencement-of-construction-work-of-the-eye-hospital/ https://barsanahealthcare.com/new/commencement-of-construction-work-of-the-eye-hospital/#respond Thu, 05 May 2022 11:49:17 +0000 https://barsanahealthcare.com/new/?p=1765

The Bhumi Pujan on our land in Barsana for the upcoming 100 bedded Bhaktivedanta Eye Hospital was performed on 13th Dec 2021.

We had immediately applied for the permission to start construction. However, due to the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections there was a delay in getting the same from local Barsana – Chiksoli authorities. By March end, the elections got over and new government of Yogiji was established.

From 2nd April, Chaitra Navratri started. Thousands of pilgrims come to visit Devi temples (Katyayani Devi in Vrindavan, Manasa Devi in Govardhan, Saancholi Devi in Nandgaon etc) during Navaratri. The local administration was busy in Navaratri festival & Ramnavami till 10 April.

After some follow up, on 30th April, we received official permission to start the construction of Bhaktivedanta Eye Hospital on our land in Chiksoli.

We are happy to report that the construction work has started on the auspicious day of Akshayya Trutiya, 3rd May 2022.

Barsana – Vrindavan Sewa Week 2022 https://barsanahealthcare.com/new/barsana-vrindavan-sewa-week-2022/ https://barsanahealthcare.com/new/barsana-vrindavan-sewa-week-2022/#respond Wed, 09 Mar 2022 16:53:17 +0000 https://barsanahealthcare.com/new/?p=1716

Jai Sri Radhe!

Under the inspiration of HH Radhanath Swami, Bhaktivedanta Hospital has been conducting Annual Eye Camps in Barsana since 1992. This year, due to COVID restrictions, it was decided to serve the Brajwasi’s by organising “Sewa Week ” in the first two weeks of Feb.

Around 280+ cataract surgeries were performed in the Bhaktivedanta Hospital, Vrindavan’s newly inaugurated state of the art Ophthalmic OT Unit.

Post-operative patients awaiting examination

80% of the patients were from Barsana and were provided pick-up and drop facility. The patient’s surgery was performed free of cost along with the entire hospital stay of 2 nights and 1 day inclusive of all the meals. To ensure proper recovery and compliance, all the patients were also given free medicines for one month along with a blanket.

Several ophthalmologists from Bhakivedanta Hospital, Mumbai and other organizations offered their clinical/surgical expertise in service of the Brajwasis. They were supported by around 20 support staff and 30 volunteers who worked tirelessly to make the Seva Week/program a success.

Dr. Vivek Shanbhag, who has been driving the Barsana Eye Hospital project, inspired everyone by his presence and spiritual insights. During the Sewa Week, the medical team was also blessed with the opportunity to operate on two of Srila Prabhupada’s senior disciples.

Presently, Bhaktivedanta Hospital offers daily eye care services in a rented premise at the Radha Madhav Ashram, Barsana.

The Bhumi Pujan for the new 100 bedded Eye Hospital in Barsana was done in Dec’21 and the construction work is expected to start in April’22.
Bhaktivedanta Hospital at Vrindavan already offers medical services related to physiotherapy, general health, orthopaedics and dental services. In the very near future an Orthopedics OT will also be inaugurated.
